HALIFAX -- There are two confirmed cases of COVID-19 at New Brunswick high schools, as well as a potential exposure.

On Sunday, New Brunswick’s Department of Education and Early Childhood Development responded to an inquiry from CTV News concerning COVID-19 cases in schools.

“A positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed at Hampton Middle School, and Simonds High School and the school community has been notified,” said Department of Education and Early Childhood Development acting director of communications, Danielle Elliott, in an email.

“A possible exposure to a positive case of COVID-19 has also been confirmed at Harbour View High School, and the school community has been notified. School staff will contact affected families with more information should there be any impacts on learning.”

The department notes school and district staff will follow any advice that may be provided by regional Public Health authorities. It adds it is committed to protecting the privacy of students and staff as per the Personal Health Information Privacy and Access Act and cannot provide futher comment.
