Jayson Baxter is a co-host and producer for CTV News at 5.
A familiar face to CTV viewers for more than 20 years, Jayson has covered everything from breaking news, to sports and entertainment.
Jayson began his career in television with jobs in Ontario and Alberta. In 1998, he moved home to Nova Scotia when he landed a job with CTV Atlantic as a sports and news reporter.
It didn’t take long to recognize that Jayson’s ability to work without a script, combined with a quick wit and natural storytelling ability, made him a perfect co-host for Breakfast Television.
After several years of early mornings, Jayson's broad skillset brought him back to the newsroom, where he continued reporting and honed his skills as a news anchor.
Now, Jayson is the co-host of CTV News at 5, alongside Maria Panopalis. In addition to his hosting responsibilities, Jayson is a show producer and can often be found in the field gathering material for the show.
Jayson has brought viewers many memorial stories over the years, including his foray into the world of food trucks and a special feature about Canadian veterans in Vimy Ridge.
In 2008, Jayson was recognized for journalistic excellence with a Radio-Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Atlantic Regional Award for his documentary on climate change, which won for best In-Depth/ Investigative Reporting.
Jayson grew up in Lower Sackville, N.S. and has deep ties to the community. He has volunteered countless hours with sports groups and has been involved with many of CTV Atlantic’s charitable efforts - from the IWK Telethon to Christmas Daddies. He has a special place in his heart for the Canadian Cancer Society and hosted Relay for Life in Halifax for many years. More recently, Jayson has been part of the CTV Ride for Cancer team benefitting the QE2 Health Sciences Foundation.
Jayson is the proud father of three girls. The time he used to spend coaching their sports teams when they were children, is now redirected to caring for a rescued race horse he shares with his Dad.
