A young woman has died after she was struck by a truck while riding her bike in Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the collision happened at the corner of Windmill and Albro Lake roads around 3 p.m. The woman died at the scene.

“The girl was riding her bike north and the truck, the truck came up and made the right turn to turn up Albro Lake, and that’s where they collided,” says Murray Quigley, who witnessed the incident.

“The woman is believed to be in her 30s,” says Const. Pierre Bourdages of the Halifax Regional Police. “She was pronounced dead at the scene. We have yet to positively identify her, so her name won’t be released at this time.”

Area residents say the intersection is a busy one. They also say it can be confusing, and some have seen accidents there before.

“There’s a lot going on, you know,” says Quigley. “People getting hit in the crosswalks, and people turning and not paying attention because of cellphones, texting, or just not paying attention.”

The intersection is expected to be closed for several hours while police investigate the collision. An accident reconstructionist is assisting in the investigation.
