Dartmouth hospital under lockdown after Portland St. shooting
Police say at 9 p.m. Friday, they received a report of possible gun shots in the 500-block of Portland Street, Dartmouth.
HALIFAX -- Halifax Regional Police are investigating after a man was shot in the 500-block of Portland Street, and the Dartmouth General Hospital was placed under lockdown Friday night.
Police say at 9 p.m. Friday, they received a report of possible gun shots in the 500-block of Portland Street.
Officers arrived on scene and confirmed a shooting had taken place and asked the public to avoid the area.
At 9:29 p.m., the Dartmouth General Hospital reported a 33-year-old male arrived with non-life-threatening gun shot wounds.
Hospital officials said the lockdown was lifted after about two hours.
Just before 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, police confirmed they had cleared the scene and that the area reopened.
Police note that they do not have any information concerning a suspect.
Investigators with the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division are conducting an investigation. The investigation is in its preliminary stages and is ongoing.
