Death of man inside Porters Lake home not suspicious: Halifax RCMP
Police have released more details about the death of a man who barricaded himself inside a home in Porters Lake, N.S., Thursday.
The RCMP received a complaint around 4 a.m. that a distressed man who was believed to be armed was inside a home in the 1300 block of West Porters Lake Road.
The RCMP, crisis negotiators, emergency response team and police dog services all responded to the scene. Police say they made several attempts to contact the man but he didn’t respond.
No one else was inside the home at the time.
Officers obtained a warrant and entered the home, where they found the body of a 30-year-old man inside. Police have not said how the man died but say his death is not considered suspicious.
His identity has not been released.
“Our thoughts are with the man's loved ones at this difficult time,” said the RCMP in a news release.
A section of West Porters Lake Road was closed for several hours Thursday. It has since reopened.
Police also asked Nova Scotia Power to turn off power in parts of Porters Lake to assist in their response. It was restored a short time later.
The investigation into the man’s death is ongoing with the assistance of the RCMP’s forensics team.
