A 29-year-old Charlottetown man is facing several charges in connection with a violent armed robbery at a home in Petitcodiac, N.B. more than nine years ago.

RCMP say two masked men entered the home on May 28, 2004 and demanded money from the woman who lived there. They allege the suspects assaulted the woman and tied her up.

Police also allege the suspects assaulted the woman’s son when he arrived at the home before fleeing the scene.

Investigators say a positive DNA match was identified at the National DNA Data Bank, allowing police to confirm the identity of one of the two men believed to be involved in the home invasion.

Michael Arthur Gaudet appeared in Moncton provincial court Monday morning. He is charged with forcible confinement, assault, robbery, wearing a disguise with the intent to commit an offence, uttering threats and break and enter.

Gaudet will remain behind bars until his next court appearance on Dec. 5.

RCMP are still looking for two other male suspects in connection with the incident. They are asking anyone with information to contact police.
