A man escaped serious injury after he became trapped inside an overturned tractor-trailer in Cape Breton early Monday.

The RCMP and emergency crews responded to the accident on Kelly’s Mountain at 6:15 a.m.

Police say the vehicle was travelling eastbound when the driver failed to negotiate a sharp turn at the bottom of the hill.

The truck ended up on its roof in the ditch on the Campbellton Road near Highway 105.

Police say the driver was trapped inside but emergency crews were able to remove him from the vehicle.

He was not injured.

The trailer had been carrying general merchandise for various stores in Cape Breton.

The RCMP say traffic is flowing normally on Highway 105 but they expect it will take some time to get the truck out of the ditch.

The incident remains under investigation.
