HALIFAX -- An 18-year-old woman from New Brunswick's Elsipogtog First Nation has been charged with aggravated assault following a stabbing in the community on Wednesday.

Shortly before 3 p.m. on Jan. 20, N.B. RCMP responded to a residence on Oak Street, where a 22-year-old woman had suffered stab wounds. She was transported to hospital with what are believed to be serious injuries.

Police arrested an 18-year-old woman from the community near the scene without incident.

On Thursday, Tia Augustine appeared in Moncton Provincial Court by way of tele-remand and was charged with aggravated assault.

Augustine was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 25, for a bail hearing.

The investigation is ongoing.
