Breaking news--- CTV News has learned that Halifax's new Convention Centre has been given the green light.
Defense Minister Peter Mackay will announce federal funding for the project during a speech to the chamber of commerce on Monday.
Earlier this week, the Defense Minister made it clear that the Federal Government is "ready to go" on the project.
The one hundred and fifty nine million dollar Convention Centre would be part of a much larger 500-million dollar project that would include a four and a half star hotel and an office tower.
Sources close to the project say that while costs have gone up, there will be additional government money added.
The Halifax Regional Municipality and Nova Scotia Government initially requested forty-seven million dollars from the Federal Government.
In July of 2010, the cost of the proposed Convention Centre was one-hundred and fifty-nine million dollars.
The city and the province are putting fifty-six-million dollars towards the project.
Construction could begin later this year.
