Fiona: Maritime cancellations and closures

Post-tropical storm Fiona has brought heavy wind and rain conditions to Atlantic Canada - here is a list of cancellations and closures across the region due to the storm.

NOVA SCOTIA

Transportation:

• Canso Causeway Canal has reopened to all vehicle traffic.
• WestJet suspending Halifax operations until Sunday morning.
• Halifax Transit, Access-A-Bus and ferry services are suspended.
• Both Halifax Harbour bridges, Mackay and Macdonald, have reopened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
• The CAT high-speed ferry service between Yarmouth, N.S. and Bar Harbor, ME has been cancelled for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
• Marine Atlantic has suspended ferry crossings between Port aux Basques, N.L. and North Sydney, N.S. between Friday and Sunday.
• All Saturday sailings are cancelled for MV Confederation and MV Saaremaa 1 service between Wood Islands, P.E.I and Caribou, N.S.
• MV Fundy Rose service between Saint John NB and Digby NS is cancelled for Saturday.

Parks:

• All provincial campgrounds, beaches and day-use parks and the Shubenacadie Wildlife Park are closed.
• Parks Canada advises visitors of the temporary closure of all national parks and national historic sites in Mainland Nova Scotia beginning at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23 (including Halifax Citadel, Georges Island, Grand-Pre, Fort Anne, Port-Royal, Kejimkujik, Kejimkujik Seaside, and Sable Island).
• All Halifax-area ball diamonds, sport fields, and all weather fields remain closed Saturday and Sunday.
• Shubie Park and Point Pleasant Park are closed. The public is being asked to avoid municipal parks while officials mend to damage.
• The Halifax Public Gardens will remain closed over the weekend.
• All camping accommodations in Cape Breton Highlands National Park are closed.
• The Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site, including the reconstructed town, Kennington Cove, Lighthouse trail and green spaces will be closed until futher notice.
• The Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site will be closed Sunday.
• Neils Harbour to Ingonish will remain closed.
• French Mountain will remain closed.

Events:

• Autism Nova Scotia: Walk Your Way will now be a virtual event, date TBD
• The Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market will be closed Sunday, Sept. 25.
• Rum Runners Relay postponed to 2023
• Special Olympics Convoy (moved to Oct. 15)
• Caleb’s Superhero Walk, Run, Fly! (moved to 2023)
• King’s Co-op Bookstore (closed Friday and Saturday)
• The annual Nova Scotia Breast Cancer Reconnect and Revive Retreat planned for Sept 23-25
• Potluck/music night at Port La Tour Baptist Church rescheduled to Oct. 1
• Lumiere Cape Breton’s Art at Night Festival’s main event, originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 24, will now take place on Saturday, Oct. 1.

• LE James Joyce will be closed to the public on Sept. 23 and 24.

Schools:

• Mount Saint Vincent University campus, library and gym are closed until further notice.
• St. Francis Xavier University (except for Morrison Hall) is closed until Monday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m. Essential services (security, residences etc) will remain in operation.
• Saint Mary's University campus is closed, with possibility to reopen Monday. Fall convocation ceremonies scheduled for Friday and Saturday are postponed to a later date.
• Nova Scotia Community College's Pictou campus is closed.
• Nova Scotia College of Art and Design is closed.

Businesses:

• Halifax Shopping Centre is closed Saturday.
• Mic Mac Mall is closed Saturday.
• Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Libraries is closed Saturday.
• Pictou-Antigonish Regional Libraries is closed on Saturday.
• Halifax Regional Public Libraries is closed on Saturday.

Hospitals:

Halifax, Dartmouth, Eastern Shore, and West Hants:

• Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital's emergency department will reopen Sunday at 12 a.m.
• Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital's emergency department will reopen Sunday at 7 a.m.
• Black Point Community Centre PHMU clinic has been cancelled Saturday.
• Kinney Place Outreach Vaccine clinic cancelled Saturday.
• Community-based blood collection at Woodlawn, St. Margaret's Bay, Bayers Road, and Spryfield are closed Saturday.
• COVID-19 testing centres closed Saturday.

Cape Breton Island, Antigonish, Guysborough County:

• Guysborough Memorial Hospital's emergency department will reopen Saturday at 8 p.m.
• Strait Richmond Hospital's emergency department is closed until Sunday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m.
• Victoria County Memorial Hospital's emergency department will transition into a temporary urgent care centre Oct. 3 at 8 a.m.
• Glace Bay Hospital's emergency department is closed until further notice due to the unavailability of physicians and nurses.
• New Waterford Consolidated Hospital's emergency department is closed for facility maintenance.
• Northside General Hospital's urgent treatment centre is open Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Wednesdays & Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 902-794-8966 to book an appointment.
• Millville Community Centre PHMU clinic is cancelled
• COVID-19 testing centres closed.

Colchester County, Municiaplity of East Hants, Cumberland County, and Pictou County:

• North Cumberland Memorial Hospital Centre in Pugwash is closed Saturday.
• Aberdeen Hospital's mental health and addictions services in Pictou are closed Saturday.

Annapolis and Kings Counties, Digby, Shelburne, Yarmouth Counties, Lunenburg and Queens Counties:

• Queens General Hospital's emergency department will reopen Monday at 8 a.m.
• Roseway Hospital's emergency department will reopen Sunday at 8 a.m.
• The after-hours clinic at Eastern Kings Memorial Health Centre will reopen Monday at 5 p.m.
• Public Health mobile testing at the New Minas Fire Department has been cancelled.

NEW BRUNSWICK

• MV Fundy Rose service between Saint John NB and Digby NS is cancelled for Saturday.
• Edmundston Regional Hospital will temporary suspend pediatric services due to staffing shortages. A pediatrician is still available, on call. This interruption will not affect obstetrical service.
• University of Moncton campus will be closed Saturday.
• Several flights scheduled for Saturday out of Moncton and Saint John have been cancelled.

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

• All Saturday sailings are cancelled for MV Confederation and MV Saaremaa 1 service between Wood Islands, P.E.I and Caribou, N.S.
• Access PEI Charlottetown is closed Saturday.
• Confederation Bridge has reopened to all vehicle traffic.
• All PEI Provincial Park campgrounds and day areas have been closed.
• Discover Charlottetown’s Street Feast is rescheduled for Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8
• The 2022 Harvest Home Festival has been cancelled.
• P.E.I. Beer Festival has been postponed until Feb. 10 and 11, 2023.
• All public libraries are closed Saturday.
• Access P.E.I. Charlottetown
• Holland College campus is closed on Saturday.
• University of Prince Edward Island will remain closed Sunday and Monday. All classes have been cancelled.
