Arrests made in weekend shooting

Halifax police have arrested four men in connection with a weekend shooting in the city’s north end.

Police responded to a report of gunshots fired in the area of Robie and McCully streets just after 2 a.m. Saturday.

They say a 48-year-old taxi driver was driving north on Robie Street with a male passenger when several shots were fired at the cab from inside a small, silver car.

No one was injured in the shooting and police say the suspect in the silver car fled the area.

The passenger in the taxi was also gone when police arrived on the scene.

Police executed three search warrants – one in Williamswood and two in Halifax - Monday morning in connection with the shooting.

They arrested four men in their 20s and are in the process of interviewing them.

There is no word on charges at this time.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Suspicious package discovered during search

Traffic was shut down in the 2400 block of Old Sambro Road in Williamswood for several hours Monday as a result of one of the searches.

Police say they were searching a home in the area and found a suspicious package inside. They shut down the street and called in an explosives disposal unit, who removed the package.

Investigators are still conducting tests on the parcel.

Traffic was shut down in both directions for roughly two hours, leading to a lengthy traffic lineup.

The road re-opened to traffic just before 1:30 p.m.
