GRAND FALLS, N.B. -- A rally was held in Grand Falls, N.B. on Sunday, October 30. The public met to support Henk Tepper's family.

Tepper is a Maritime farmer who was detained by Lebanese officials in March. The officials detained Tepper on an Interpol warrant issued by Algeria. They claim the farmer sold them rotten potatoes. Tepper's family and lawyer deny the allegation.

Liberal MP Dominic Leblanc is among those putting his support behind the Teppers.

"I think it's a disgrace that the federal government hasn't asked for his return," said Leblanc.

Tepper runs a farming operation worth millions of dollars. In his absence, others have tried to keep the business going, but family has had to seek protection from creditors.

On Friday, October 28, a judge extended the creditor protection.

The federal government says Canada cannot intervene in another country's legal system. Tepper's family fears his time in Lebanon will be prolonged if there isn't an international intervention from Ottawa.
