A 24-year-old Halifax man is facing charges in the 2011 stabbing death of a 37-year-old man in Dartmouth.
Police responded to an apartment on Primrose Street at 11:15 p.m. on May 22, 2011.
Upon arrival, officers found a man suffering from a stab wound. James Gregory Wareham was rushed to hospital where he passed away.
Police arrested a man in connection with the incident at an address on Walter Havill Drive at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Jordan Rodrigues appeared in Dartmouth provincial court Thursday to face charges of second-degree murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Police say the incident wasn’t random as Rodrigues and Wareham were known to one another.
Wareham’s family says news of the arrest came as a relief, but was also painful and shocking.
“We were upset emotionally because it opened a lot of old wounds and brought back that day, when it happened,” said Sandra Wilson, Wareham’s aunt.
But along with the bad, also have her reflecting now on who her nephew was.
“I will remember him as his mother's boy. You can't imagine how close they were,” she said.
“He was a very thoughtful, very nice boy. Gone way too soon.”
Wilson says the family has lots of unanswered questions they hope will be answered as the court proceedings progress.
“There's a lot to go through yet. It's going to be an emotional roller coaster for us, I think,” she said.
Rodrigues is due back in court next month.
