Halifax police say a 39-year-old man will appear in provincial court today following an alleged assault with a weapon.

Police received a phone call just before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday from a woman visiting a home on Catamaran Road in Halifax.

She told police the homeowner had assaulted her and pointed a firearm at her.

Halifax Regional Police rushed to the home, only to find the suspect attempting to flee out the back door of the residence.

Police managed to arrest the man. Investigators found a handgun, six rifles, and a compound bow during a search of the home.

The Halifax man was held overnight and faces a number of charges including, assault, assault with a weapon, careless use of a firearm and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
