Halifax police are investigating an armed robbery that happened at the Needs convenience store on Chebucto Road at about 1:55 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the suspect produced a handgun and demanded cigarettes and money from the employee, who was not injured. He fled the store with an undisclosed amount of cigarettes and cash.

The suspect is described as being a white male, about 17 or 18 years old. He is five feet, seven inches tall and was wearing black sweatpants, a black hoodie with a multicoloured design on the front and a black ball cap.
