HALIFAX -- Police in Halifax are investigating after a man was found dead in the hallway of a building following a weapons complaint Sunday night.

Halifax Regional Police say at approximately 8:50 p.m., officers responded to a weapons complaint at an address in the 600 block of Washmill Lake Drive in Halifax.

Officers located a deceased male upon arrival in the hallway of a building. The man has not been identified.

"We will be reaching out to the man's family and our thoughts do go out to this man who was found deceased," said Cst. John MacLeod with the Halifax Regional Police.

Police are investigating the death as suspicious and ask the public to avoid the area as they investigate.

Melanie Chapman, a salon owner in the area, says word of the situation spread quickly around the area.

"We have a group chat here in the salon where we all can talk together and some of the girls were stressing about coming to work," said Chapman.

"A couple of videos of like, 11 cop cars here. I heard something about rifles, assault rifles, not too sure," said Nektarios Wicha, whose family owns a restaurant in the area. "We came down today just to check it out."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
