Police are looking for a teenage boy suspected of stabbing a woman in the Halifax area.
Officers responded to an apartment building in the 500 block of Herring Cove Road just after noon Tuesday.
They found a 44-year-old woman in the hallway, suffering from a stab wound.
Police say she was stabbed in the lobby of the building and that the suspect fled the scene.
The woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre with non life-threatening injuries.
Police are now trying to track down a white male, about age 14, believed to be involved in the stabbing.
Police say there is no evidence to suggest the incident was a robbery attempt and they aren’t certain about the motive behind the attack.
They also aren’t sure who the suspect is, going only on information provided by the victim and witnesses.
“We’re still interviewing the victim at the hospital to determine if she knew the attacker or not, so we don’t even know if this was random or not,” says Halifax Regional Police Const. Pierre Bourdages.
Area residents are expressing concern over the incident.
“Anything’s possible in this neighbourhood,” says neighbour Wendy Fralic. “Especially someone I know too, you know, I mean, I’ve been to her apartment many a times. She’s been to mine.”
The property manager says the victim does not live in the building where she was stabbed – she lives in the building next door. Police aren’t sure why she was in the building, but say she knows people who live there.
Both buildings are secure but the exterior doors are not locked, allowing people access to the lobby.
If caught, the teen could face charges ranging from assault with a weapon to attempted murder.
Police say he wore a black hoodie, blue and white sneakers, and covered his face with a white balaclava at the time of the incident.
