Police in New Brunswick are investigating a collision on Thursday that killed two people on Highway 8, outside Miramichi.

RCMP say the crash involved two lone-occupant vehicles and took place shortly before 6:30 p.m. in Williamstown, N.B., between Williamstown Road and the Anderson Bridge.

Each vehicle carried only their drivers: a 45-year-old man from Cassilis, N.B. and a 42-year-old man from Parker, N.B.

Both men died from their injuries at the scene.Their names have not been released.

Police say the crash happened after one of the vehicles crossed the centre line, colliding with the oncoming vehicle.

The highway was closed for about four hours following the crash, while a police collision reconstruction unit and other first responders investigated.

RCMP ask anyone who was travelling on Highway 8 between Anderson Bridge and Williamstown Road between 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday to contact them.
