Tyler Keizer’s girlfriend says she was dropping him off at his halfway house on Gottingen Street just seconds before he was killed.
“It’s a nightmare,” said Catherine Castellucci. “I can’t sleep. I don’t know why.”
Keizer was gunned down while sitting in a vehicle with Castellucci on the corner of Gottingen and Falkland streets Monday night. He was sent to hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
Castellucci says the gunshots came out of nowhere.
“I wasn’t hit. He was hit I think four times,” said Castellucci. “I don’t even remember. It went so fast.”
Castellucci, 25, lives in Montreal and would fly to Halifax on weekends to see Keizer. She says she met Keizer on a dating website for inmates.
Parole documents show Keizer had been in trouble with the law since he was a teenager. During a parole hearing in August, documents state Keizer was making “measurable change."
"He wanted to change,” said Castellucci. “He even wanted to go to school. He said ‘I'll go to school, I'll go into business.’"
Castellucci says Keizer had several other goals and aspirations.
"His dream was to go to Bora Bora, and we were going to go together and get married," she said.
Police say this is the 12th homicide of the year and investigators have yet to make any arrests.
"The investigation is pretty fluid,” said Const. Diane Woodworth of Halifax Regional Police. “Our investigators are actively interviewing people and speaking with witnesses. Any information would be helpful."
It's information Keizer's girlfriend would like as she deals with the trauma.
"He wanted to travel the world. We had so many dreams,” said Castellucci.
Castellucci says she didn't see the shooter and she's hoping police make a quick arrest.
