Residents of Upper Onslow, N.S., are sending their love to a woman with cancer by placing flowers outside her home.

Doris Hanna, 73, was diagnosed with lung cancer, which has spread to her bones and brain. Her daughter, Sabine Pace, says her mother was recently looking out the window and said she’d love to see flowers.

“And my sister said come hell or high water, she would try to it make happen,” said Pace.

With a can of red spray paint and a few plastic rose buds, Hanna’s other daughter Michelle Thrower started to create a garden.

"I just did it to make mom happy,” said Thrower. “That was it - just to see her smile."

It quickly became clear community members wanted to see Hanna smile, too. Since Sunday, more flowers have been showing up at their door or popping up in the garden.

"Mom has only seen pictures so far, the last three days we haven't even been able to get her out of bed," said Pace.

"It's very heartwarming,” said Thrower. “We're hoping to get her up today because she said last night she wants to see her flowers."

A bouquet arrived Tuesday morning from Prince Edward Island. Family and friends living outside the area have been posting photos of flowers on social media for Hanna.

Family friend Barry Fleming drove more than an hour to grant Hanna’s wish.

"Doris means a lot. She's a special lady,” said Fleming. “She wants to see flowers, so let's give her flowers."

It’s an example of love and support for a woman who means so much to so many.

"She's always said you get what you put out there, and this is certainly an example of that," said Pace.
