On Thursday, the jury in Devin Morningstar’s first-degree murder trial was shown police interrogation video of the accused, as the trial entered its fourth day at Moncton provincial court.

Morningstar is one of three accused of murdering 18-year-old Baylee Wylie, whose remains were found in a burned-out apartment in Moncton on Dec. 17, 2015.

On Thursday, the jury was shown video of Morningstar’s police interrogation, shortly after he was arrested for Wylie's murder. The RCMP audio and video tapes show Morningstar breaking down repeatedly; as he told police about the night Wylie was killed.

In one part of the video, with Morningstar’s face in his hands and crying, describes Wylie's injuries to Sgt. Jim MacPherson, saying Wylie was stabbed, “every inch of his body, from head to toe.”

The court previously heard that Wylie was stabbed nearly 200 times.

Throughout the interview with Sgt. MacPherson, Morningstar claims to have inflicted three stab wounds, saying quote “I know I’m not guilty for everything. I'm prepared to do my time for what I did do. That's why I’m here.”

Morningstar also talked about getting a cut on his hand, something noted by Const. Laurent Lemieux while speaking to Morningstar after he was taken into custody.

In the tapes, Morningstar repeatedly said he planned to come forward on his own.

The families of both Wylie and Morningstar seemed visibly upset by the video testimony. There are roughly two more hours of footage still to be presented when the trial resumes Monday.

The jury is off Friday so Chief Justice John Walsh can deal with another matter before the court.

Two other people - Marissa Shephard and Tyler Noel - are also facing first-degree murder and arson charges in Wylie’s death, but won't go to trial for at least another year.
