Karma is a cat: N.S. SPCA asks Swifties to donate on singer’s birthday

Swifties will have the chance to build some good “Karma” this Friday by donating to the Nova Scotia SPCA.

The organization is asking fans to join in the “Taylor Swift Cat Challenge” on Dec. 13 – the singer’s birthday – and donate to support cats in their shelters.

Specifically, the SPCA is suggesting Swifties donate $13, $35 or $87, representing the singer’s favourite number, her age or her boyfriend Travis Kelce’s jersey number.

The shelter hopes to raise $1,989 in honour of 1989 – the year Swift was born and the title of her fifth studio album.

“This is a great way to get fans of all ages engaged in philanthropy,” says Marni Tuttle, chief advancement officer of the Nova Scotia SPCA.

“We know that Swift fans are generous, you heard stories throughout the Eras Tour, and Taylor Swift herself gave back in every city she performed in.”

Swift is a self-proclaimed cat mom to her three felines, Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson and Benjamin Button, who appeared with the singer on the cover of Time last year.

“Many people talk about Taylor Swift because of her world-record-breaking concert tour, the Eras Tour. Or her multi-award-winning music,” said the SPCA in a news release.

“But for pet families with cats, they know that deep down the talented Swift is just like them, a cat lady.”

The SPCA says there are more than 700 cats in its seven shelters across the province. The organization helped roughly 16,000 pets last year.
