INGONISH, N.S. - Officials say a lightning strike is the suspected cause of a small forest fire burning in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park.

A park spokesman says the blaze started in a remote, northeast section of the park around 2:30 p.m. on Monday and grew to about three hectares by the evening.

Derek Quann, the park's resource conversation manager, says the fire has been contained and about a dozen crew members were still dousing hot spots.

He says no buildings or people are threatened by the fire and the park is still open to visitors.
