If you've been looking for love in all the wrong places, you might want to head online Sunday night. Dating websites say Jan. 8 at 9:49 p.m. will be peak log-on time for those looking to find a romantic connection.

The number of people meeting online is increasing every year. According to the site Match, peak dating season falls between Dec. 26 and Feb. 14. The online dating service typically sees a 60 per cent increase in logins and activity during that time.

“I never would have thought of it (online dating) years ago, but I really found, like I went on Plenty Of Fish and I found a lovely guy and we're getting married next year,” says Tanya Kerr, an online dating success story.

Online dating experts say the reason sites are busier this time of year is simple, people are going online as part of a New Year's resolution to find a partner.

“Definitely, it's picked up since the New Year, I think we got 50 new subscribers in the last week or two,” says Linsday Cory, with Halifax Match.

Cory says online dating is a relaxing way to meet people, versus the pressure of going out to a bar.

“Just try it and have no expectations, go into it wanting to make friends rather than love connections,” says Cory.

While log-in love brings wedding bells for some, it can be too good to be true for others.

“The one time that I actually met up with someone he didn't have the same pictures as his profile, so it was really awkward and he kinda thought that I might not care, but I did…I left,” says Allison Webb, an online dater.

So if you're single and ready to mingle, your best shot for a love connection begins during the holiday season and runs until Valentine's Day.
