A 26-year-old man is facing charges, including attempted murder, after he allegedly assaulted someone with a baseball bat in Amherst, N.S.

Amherst Police responded to a home on Bayview Drive around 4 a.m. Sunday. Police say the suspect, who was known to the victim and witnesses, had fled the scene.

Police haven't released any information about the alleged victim.

Members of the Cumberland RCMP arrested the suspect roughly two hours later. He was returned to Amherst and made a brief court appearance Tuesday morning.

Adam Kevin McKay is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, break and enter, uttering threats, and breach of an undertaking.

McKay has been remanded into custody and is due back in court on Friday.
