A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a man who was gunned down inside his vehicle in Halifax in November 2016.

Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of gunshots fired in the area of Falkland and Gottingen streets around 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 21, 2016.

When officers arrived, they found a 22-year-old man who had been shot while sitting inside his vehicle.

Tyler Ronald Joseph Keizer was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

At the time, Keizer’s girlfriend told CTV Atlantic that she was dropping him off at a halfway house on Gottingen Street when the shots were fired.

Catherine Castellucci was also inside the vehicle, but she wasn’t injured.

Police arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with the deadly shooting around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Adam Joseph Drake appeared in Halifax provincial court Thursday to face a charge of first-degree murder. He was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on March 19.

"We hope that the charges announced today bring some measure of comfort for Tyler's loved ones," said Halifax Regional Police Supt. Jim Perrin during a news conference Friday.

Despite a lengthy investigation, police still aren't releasing what possible motive may have been behind the killing.

“There's premeditation with respect to first-degree murder,” Perrin said. “I'm not going to speak to the motive -- that will come out in court -- but we believe there was premeditation in this particular crime.”

Police do say, however, that the suspect and victim were known to each other.

Meanwhile, investigators believe there are more people who have information about Keizer’s death, and they’re asking those people to come forward.
