A man is facing charges after the name of a sexual assault victim was allegedly posted on social media, breaching a court-imposed publication ban.

The charge is in connection with Lyle Howe’s sexual assault case.

Halifax Regional Police say they received complaints on July 31 that an individual had posted the victim’s name on a Facebook page.

The identity of the victim was protected by a publication ban issued by the courts when the sexual assault charge was first laid against Howe.

Police say the investigation culminated Wednesday morning when a 62-year-old Dartmouth man was served with a notice to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Nov. 4.

The man is facing a charge of breaching a publication ban.

Howe, a prominent black defence lawyer in Halifax, was found guilty in May of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman on March 20, 2011.

At his trial, he testified he had consensual sex with the woman, but the Crown argued she was impaired and did not give consent.

Howe was acquitted of administering a stupefying substance when the jury delivered its verdict in May.

He was sentenced to three years in jail in July and suspended by the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.

Howe was released from custody in August, pending an appeal of his case.
