LONG CREEK, NEW BRUNSWICK -- RCMP say a man is dead and four people were sent to hospital after a crash on a New Brunswick highway on Saturday.

Police say the accident happened on Highway 10 in Long Creek near Sussex around 5 p.m. when a vehicle travelling east crossed the centre line and hit an oncoming car.

The driver of the eastbound car, a 29-year-old man from Waterborough, died at the scene and the vehicle's passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say a mother and her two children who were travelling in the other car also suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The name of the victim has not been released pending the notification of family.

The Mounties say alcohol and not wearing a seat belt were contributing factors in the crash.
