November - or "Movember" – is quickly drawing to a close, as is evidenced by the thousands of fuzzy-faced men across the region.

And one young Maritimer is making sure everyone has a chance to participate in the important, and popular, prostate cancer fundraiser.

Maxwell Gilbert began making felt moustaches earlier this fall to raise money for "Movember."

Many of his creations were made and sold across the region and $3,000 has been raised for the cause so far. There have been many "Movember" fundraisers across the country, but the National Director says he hasn't seen anything like the one started by Gilbert.

"Nowhere have I seen the youthful exuberance Max has sown, both with his own school and his own community, and certainly with the support of his parents to get out into the entire community of Atlantic Canada," says Pete Bombeci of Movember Canada.

And Gilbert already has a plan in the works for next year.

"He would like for every elementary school in Nova Scotia to have a moustache day…and he wants to start work on that right away," says the boy's father Kent Gilbert.

Congratulations to Maxwell Gilbert, our Maritimer of the Week!
