RCMP have charged two Montreal men after a major drug bust in Halifax.
The Canada Border Services Agency says it seized nearly 32 kilograms, or 70 pounds, of cocaine from a shipping container that arrived in Halifax on September 1.
The haul has a street value of roughly $4 million.
Police say the shipping container arrived from Cartagena, Colombia and its contents were declared as food products.
Border service agents examined the container and located 122 cans of beans with false bottoms that concealed the cocaine.
They say the cans were destined for a food distribution company in Saint-Jérôme, Quebec.
RCMP were contacted and an investigation resulted in charges against two Montreal men. They were arrested at a warehouse in Lachine on September 15.
Luis Carlos Moreno, 48, and Julian Andrey Mazuera, 32, are in custody on charges of consiracy to import cocaine and possession for the purpose of trafficking.
