MONTREAL -- Dominique Ducharme will coach Team Canada at the 2017 world junior championship in Toronto and Montreal.
Ducharme was an assistant coach on the Canadian squad at the 2016 world juniors in Helsinki.
During the tournament, his father Jacques died but he opted to stay on the end of the event.
The 43-year-old was named coach and general manager of the Drummondville Voltigeurs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in April.
He spent the previous five seasons with the Halifax Mooseheads, winning the Memorial Cup in 2013.
The Joliette, Que. native played four seasons for the University of Vermont, where his teammates included Martin St. Louis and Tim Thomas, before embarking on a pro career spent mostly in Europe.
He has also been an assistant coach on Canada's under-17 and under-18 squads.
Dave Lowry was behind the bench for Canada for the 2016 world junior tournament, where Canada lost in the quarter-finals to eventual champion Finland.
