Man whose burnt remains were found at park died of homicide: police

GRAND LAKE, N.S. -- Police say the death of a man whose burnt remains were found in a Nova Scotia park was the result of a homicide.

RCMP Cpl. Scott MacRae said an autopsy was done Thursday and concluded that the man was killed, but wouldn't release the cause of death as the investigation continues.

MacRae also said police have confirmed his identity, but would not release it pending the notification of his next of kin.

A passerby discovered the body Wednesday at Oakfield Provincial Park in Grand Lake, about 35 kilometres north of Halifax.

The body was removed from the scene as the RCMP and the medical examiner's office investigated.

MacRae said they are appealing to the public for information on the case, but wouldn't say if they had brought anyone in for questioning.
