Eighty-four-year-old Naida Hamm has spent many of her days and nights painting scallop shells and selling them to raise money for the Christmas Daddies Telethon.

“I feel like doing this,” says Naida. “It’s helping those little boys and girls."

Her children say she's been finding ways to help others all her life, and doing it creatively.

"Cookies, soups. If someone was sick, she'd make something and take it," says her son, Brad Hamm.

Christmas Daddies has been a Maritime tradition since the first telethon aired back in 1964. The seniors’ home staff were so impressed by her project to the cause that they made a pledge to match the amount of money Naida brings in.

So far, she’s at $180.

Nadia also plays and sings for other residents, all the more reason to present her with a special honour of Maritimer of the Month.

Congratulations to Naida Hamm, our Maritimer of the Month!

If you know someone deserving of our Maritimer of the Month award, we want to hear about it.

It doesn’t matter how old they are, the nature of the good deed they’ve done, or what part of the region they live in — we want your ideas!
