MONCTON, N.B. -- Two communities in New Brunswick are under the microscope this week as they compete to host Games of La Francophonie in 2021.

Officials are in Dieppe and Moncton to assess the province's bid for the games.

Five people appointed by the International Organization of La Francophonie are visiting sites proposed for sports and cultural events, along with accommodation facilities.

Meetings are also being held with the bid committee, along with officials from the provincial government and the two municipalities.

The commission will then go to Sherbrooke, Que., and Guadeloupe, France, which are also hoping to host the games.

The winning bid will be announced next fall.
