A New Brunswick man is facing charges after police seized thousands of counterfeit DVDs at a home in McAdam.

Police say they executed a search warrant at the home Thursday, where they seized more than 25,000 DVDs as well as computers, hard drives and cash.

The DVDs include counterfeit copies of movies, video games and television shows.

A 53-year-old McAdam man was arrested in connection with the seizure and later released from custody.

Police say he is due to appear in court at a later date to answer to charges for allegedly making and selling counterfeit goods.

"Copyright infringement is a growing and serious issue in Canada and around the world. Counterfeit goods, whether smuggled into the country or produced in Canada, pose a threat to our economic integrity and represent a financial loss to legitimate businesses," says RCMP Cpl. Chantal Farrah. "People engaged in this type of crime are taking a big financial risk as the fines attached to this type of crime can be very high."

Police say the arrest and seizure comes after a 10-month investigation.
