Halifax Regional Police are looking for two teenaged suspects who roughed up and robbed an 81-year-old veteran in Dartmouth yesterday.

Police responded to the 100 block of Princeton Lane around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators say the teens knocked on the man’s door and pulled a gun on him when he answered. Then they forced the man into his basement, knocked him to the floor and went through his pockets where they found his car keys.

The suspects then fled the home, taking the victim’s 2010 Buick Lacrosse with them.

Witnesses spotted the vehicle in the area of Simmonds Road and North Preston Road around 11:30 p.m. and called police, who rushed to the area.

When they arrived the vehicle was gone, but it has since been recovered.

Police say members of Cole Harbour RCMP found the stolen vehicle in the 100 block of Whynder Lake Road in North Preston around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators are processing the vehicle for evidence at police headquarters.

Residents of the Dartmouth neighbourhood where the incident took place say they were surprised to hear of such a crime in their own backyard.

“It’s very awful…it’s scary,” says one area resident. “We don’t usually have things happen like that in our neighbourhood.”

The suspects are described as two black males in their late teens. One of the teens is described as five-feet-eight inches tall and clean cut. He wore a red and white shirt, red and white shorts and white shoes at the time of the incident.

The second suspect is five-feet-eleven inches and with an athletic build. He wore dark clothing and white shoes and police say he carried a silver handgun.

Police say the victim suffered minor injuries as a result of being pushed to the floor.
