Two New Brunswick men who underwent "liberation therapy" for multiple sclerosis are trying to convince the government to approve its use in Canada despite studies questioning its effectiveness.

Tim Donovan and John McLaughlin have launched a four-month, cross-Canada tour to tout the benefits of the treatment, which involves widening the neck veins to improve the flow of blood to the brain.

New Brunswick Premier David Alward has promised in the past to set up a 500-thousand dollar fund to help patients pay for the procedure abroad. Details of the fund have yet to be finalized.

New Brunswick is the only province to make that offer. Saskatchewan and Manitoba have committed funding for clinical trials; Newfoundland and Labrador is conducting a study of patients who have had the treatment.
