HALIFAX -- Two people have been arrested following a “police operation” that prompted the closure of some streets in Moncton, N.B., Wednesday morning.

Oakland, Salter, and Atkinson avenues, along with Lorne and Argyle streets, were closed to traffic for a few hours as police responded to the scene.

Witnesses told CTV News the incident prompted a large police presence in the area.

“Showed up to work this morning, there was probably a good 10, 12 cop cars over at Petro-Canada, they started locking down the area,” said Jordan Francis, who works in the area. “At one point in time we were working away and had a cop literally five feet away here by the dumpster, rifle out, using a car as a shield and basically demanded that everybody come out of the house and had guns drawn and everything."

Codiac RCMP say around 7:45 a.m., they answered a call about an injured person at a residence on Mountain Road.

They set up a perimeter, blocking off an area around Oakland, Salter and Atkinson, as well as Lorne and Arygle streets.

“(We) located a male there who was seriously injured he was transported to hospital and, subsequently, our investigation led us to Oakland Avenue where two individuals were arrested: a 25 year old female and a 26-year-old male," said Codiac RCMP spokesperson Staff sergeant Patricia Levesque.

Police say the suspects and victim were known to each other.
