A winter storm has hit the Maritimes bringing snow, rain, and high winds.

The snow started falling in the region early Sunday morning.

The majority of flights have been cancelled or delayed, businesses remain closed, and police in all three provinces are urging motorists to stay off the road.

RCMP New Brunswick say several roads and highways are closed and impassable because of whiteout conditions in the southeastern part of the province.

Police are also reporting white out conditions throughout Prince Edward Island, with snow plows pulled off the road in some areas.

In Halifax, where the snow has turned to rain, cars are getting stuck as they try to navigate through the flooded streets.

Many streets in the city, and in surrounding communities, have been closed due to significant flooding.

The roof of a curling club in downtown Halifax partially collapsed under the weight of the snow Sunday morning.  Emergency crews remain on the scene.

Nova Scotia Power says more than 500 customers are off the grid, due to snow and high winds, in the areas of Parrsboro, Springhill and Cheticamp.

There are no significant outages in New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
