As word gets out about a child pornography case that could have thousands of unwitting victims, more information is coming to light about the accused Moncton man.

A 24-year-old Moncton man was charged earlier this week by the RCMP, who say the investigation stemmed from information received by York Regional Police in Ontario.

York Regional Police announced on Wednesday that 41 people had been arrested and charged for their alleged participation in an international child porn ring.

RCMP say the Moncton man posed online a teenage girl, befriending teenage boys and asking them to perform sex acts, which he taped and distributed without their knowledge.

Now, RCMP say the publication ban protecting his identity is connected to an earlier, separate investigation.

The 24-year-old man was already facing charges that include making and possession child pornography, sexual assault, and touching a person under the age of 14 for a sexual purpose.

Meanwhile, as RCMP face the difficult task of identifying all the victims all over the world, they say they’re pleased with how quickly word of the case has spread.

On Wednesday, RCMP released a video asking for help finding the victims.

It’s estimated there could be as many as 2,000.

“We've had over 400,000 views on our Facebook page, which is one of the largest that we've seen,” said Cst. Jullie Rogers-Marsh.

And it’s proving effective.

Police forces from Los Angeles to London have shared the video, and Cst. Rogers-Marsh said police have already received some calls in response.
