A 34-year-old Moncton man is facing charges in connection with a suspicious fire that damaged a home in Harewood, N.B.

The RCMP were called to the fire on Highway 112 just after 12 p.m. Saturday.

They say no one was home at the time of the fire. The home sustained significant damage.

Police say they stopped the suspect’s vehicle near Centennial Park later that day, but he tried to avoid arrest by running away from officers.

They eventually managed to arrest him.

Peter Keith has been charged with arson and will be facing additional charges in connection with other complaints related to the same home.

There is no word on what those complaints are at this time.

He has been remanded into custody and is due in Moncton provincial court for a bail hearing on Wednesday.
