A 44-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of a missing Moncton woman.
The RCMP say the body of 35-year-old Candice Kennedy-Faguy was found on West Lane late Wednesday afternoon. The Moncton woman was reported missing on Sunday.
At first police said it was a suspicious death and on Friday they confirmed it was a homicide.
Claude Blanchard of Moncton was arrested in connection with her death Thursday evening and on Friday afternoon he appeared in Moncton provincial court to face a charge of first-degree murder.
Blanchard wore a camouflaged T-shirt and his head shaved with a partial Mohawk. His court appearance was very brief, lasting less than 10 minutes, and during that time Blanchard had a blank expression on his face.
Police say Blanchard and Kennedy-Faguy knew each other, but they won't say how.
Bailey Philips works next door to the West Lane apartment and the news has left her on edge.
“I feel unsafe,” Philips said. “I wanted to go home the other day, but I can’t because it’s my job, right?”
Justin Jamieson lives next door, and knew the victim.
“Candice was a friend of mine,” he said. “She was here basically the night before, hours before that happened to her.”
Police say the investigation is ongoing and they are asking anyone with information to contact them.
Blanchard will be back in court Oct. 12 for breach of an undertaking and on Oct. 19 in connection with murder.
