12-person shelter opens in Bathurst, N.B.
A 12-person shelter for people experiencing homelessness recently opened in Bathurst, N.B.
The shelter, which offers sleeping accommodations, laundry and personal hygiene facilities, and warm meals, is located at 150 Basin St. It will be open from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. daily, and it will operate 24 hours a day during extreme weather.
“This warming centre is a vital lifeline for some of our most vulnerable residents, ensuring they have a safe and warm space to turn to when temperatures drop dangerously low,” said Bathurst Mayor Kim Chamberlain in a news release from the province. “With warm meals, comfortable cots and essential services like clothing, showers and laundry, this facility will make a meaningful difference in our community.”
Anyone experiencing homelessness can call 211 for information on services.
