HALIFAX -- The faculty association of a Halifax university has voted in favour of strike action after contract negotiations reached an impasse.

The Mount Saint Vincent University faculty association says 88 per cent of members voted in favour of striking.

The union -- which represents roughly 145 faculty members, librarians and lab instructors -- has been without a contract since June 30.

It says members want to maintain comparable salaries to employees of other Nova Scotia universities.

The association says it has filed for conciliation with the Nova Scotia Department of Labour.
