HALIFAX - Unionized full-time faculty, laboratory instructors and librarians at Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax have voted in favour of a strike mandate.
The Mount Saint Vincent University Faculty Association says in a vote involving 99 per cent of its membership, 94 per cent voted yes to a move aimed at supporting the bargaining team as it heads into conciliation talks this week with the university.
The union says it has been in negotiations for a new contract since June.
Outstanding issues include fair compensation, workload, and support for caregivers and victims of domestic violence.
Association president Robert Farmer says it is looking for a "fair and equitable settlement" to ensure parity with other universities in Nova Scotia.
The union says wages and working conditions for its members have fallen behind those at other universities in the province over the last decade.
