DEER LAKE, N.L. - RCMP in western Newfoundland are no closer to determining how three people whose bodies were found in a burned-out cabin died or what started the fire.

The Mounties say the chief medical examiner has been unable to determine the cause of death for the two men and one woman.

They also say the cause of the blaze at a cabin near Deer Lake has been ruled undetermined by fire investigators.

The three bodies were discovered Aug. 6 after a fire broke out at the cabin about 60 kilometres northeast of Corner Brook.

RCMP have said the victims were a 56-year-old man from Gillams, N.L., as well as a 50-year-old woman and her son, both from Trout River, N.L.

Their names have not been released at the request of family members.

Police say their investigation is ongoing.
