A New Brunswick couple is facing sexual assault charges in connection with alleged incidents at a residential daycare.

RCMP started investigating the couple, who operated the unlicensed daycare at their home in Notre-Dame, after receiving a complaint.

Police say the incidents are alleged to have happened about 10 years ago during the day when the daycare was operating.

Hedwidge Surette, 63 and Ronald Gaudet, 64, are each charged with sexual interference, sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual assault by more than one accused against a single victim, and forcible confinement.

The couple was charged in Moncton provincial court on Thursday.

Police say, as of late last week, the daycare is no longer in operation.

RCMP are continuing to investigate the matter and are interested in speaking to any parents who may have had children attend the daycare, or any adults who attended the daycare as children.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
