FREDERICTON -- New Brunswick's Liberal government has tabled a $656.1 million capital budget for 2016-17 -- $53 million less than spending projections announced last year.
Finance Minister Roger Melanson says the plan will focus spending on infrastructure projects and support more than 6,200 jobs next year.
Just over $413 million will be spent on road and bridge construction and maintenance, as well as building upgrades.
Melanson says $108.6 million will be spent on kindergarten to Grade 12 schools, while $72 million is allocated for the maintenance and improvement of the province's health-care facilities.
He says the best way to get the province's finances on the right track is through economic growth and job creation.
