A 47-year-old New Brunswick man is facing charges after he allegedly locked himself inside his home with a firearm.

The RCMP, negotiators, and other specialized units responded to the home on Route 11 in Six Roads, N.B. shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday.

Police evacuated nearby residents from their homes as a precaution and some roads were closed while the incident unfolded.

Police say at least two shots were fired over the course of the evening. There was another man inside the home, but neither man was injured.

The man was arrested around 1:45 a.m. Friday. He was taken to hospital for treatment and later released into police custody.

Police say he will face charges in connection with the incident.
