CORNER BROOK, N.L. -- A Newfoundland man is charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision, after police came upon a car with a passenger still trapped inside.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary alleges the 23-year-old driver left the scene on Valley Road in Corner Brook by the time they arrived on Nov. 2.

The woman was removed from the overturned car by firefighters and transported to hospital in Corner Brook for observation.

The driver was also charged Sunday with driving while prohibited under the Criminal Code.

He is scheduled to appear in Corner Brook provincial court in January.
